As we mentioned in our last newsletter, LCON’s AGM will be on Monday 25 June and on the same evening we are hosting the launch of Fair Play’s Climate Justice campaign.

The venue is Cherwell School South Site – Dining Hall, Marston Ferry Road.  (Please note that this is a different building from last year’s meeting.)

Our guest speaker is Paul Valentin, International Director of Christian Aid, talking on “Climate Justice: how can we make a difference?” This will be followed by a discussion with a panel of experts. Joining Paul on the panel will be: Kaysara Khatun (Environmental Change Institite, University of Oxford), Sophia Tickell (Meteos Ltd and Just Transition), and Lisa Benjamin (Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford). Chair of Fair Play, Michael Taylor, will outline what the campaign involves and chair the panel session.

The programme for the evening is as follows:

6.30pm:  doors open, registration

7.00pm: LCON AGM

Break for light refreshments

8.00pm: talk by Paul Valentin, discussion with panel of experts, launch of Climate Justice campaign

Everyone is very welcome to attend, but voting at the AGM will be limited to LCON members. (Not a member? You can sign up here.) If you are coming just for the talk, we suggest you aim to arrive at 7.45pm.

This is the formal notice of LCON’s AGM. The AGM agenda can be found here, along with the minutes from the last AGM. Also available are the draft annual accounts and trustees’ report. Limited copies will be available at the meeting and we can send a hard copy of any of the papers to anyone who would like one.

This year the agenda includes two special resolutions, which involve changes to the Articles of Association. One is to enable us to welcome members from Jericho, which is currently outside our area. The other is about auditing accounts. If you have any queries about these that you wish to raise in advance of the meeting, please feel welcome to email Alison Hill, LCON chair at chair@lcon.org.uk.

Any members unable to attend the AGM can appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf. The form for this is here. If you wish to do this, please return the form by 7.00 pm on 23 June to Alison Hill. This can be done by email (chair@lcon.org.uk) or to the postal address on the form.

We are still seeking nominations from members who would like to be trustees. As LCON is a charitable company, our trustees are also directors. If you are interested, please get in touch. Any members can nominate themselves. Please send 100 words to support your nomination by 13 June to chair@lcon.org.uk.  To find out more about what is involved, feel free to contact the Chair. Otherwise, have a chat with one of the trustees at the AGM. We have scope to co-opt people during the year if there are still vacancies.

Finally, there will be light low carbon refreshments during the evening. If you would like to contribute something, it would be much appreciated. Please bring finger food which is vegetarian or vegan and contains no nuts. The school has a strict no nuts policy so please help us ensure we stick to this! Thank you.
